Sources: Goztepe SK in advanced talks to sign Barnsley midfielder Romal Palmer
Barnsley midfielder Romal Palmer is in advanced talks to join Turkish club Goztepe SK, Football Insider understands.
Palmer, 23, is officially out of contract at Barnsley and is set to leave the League One club on a free transfer.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Goztepe SK are set to win the race for Palmer’s signature as they close in on a full agreement.
Barnsley confirmed in their retained list last month (20 May) that the midfielder had been offered a new deal.
However, he has rejected the opportunity to extend his stay at Oakwell following their relegation to League One.
The Wigan-born ace moved from Man City’s academy to Barnsley in the summer of 2016 and emerged as a key player in the successful 2020-21 season under Valerien Ismael.

The Tykes ended up in the play-off positions before Ismael and Palmer’s midfield partner Alex Mowatt left the club for West Brom.
Barnsley then struggled in the 2021-22 season under three different managers and were relegated back to League One.
Palmer is set to end his Barnsley career with two goals and three assists in 77 appearances across all competitions.
He also played 18 times on loan for Darlington in the second half of the 2018-19 National League season.
Goztepe SK were relegated from Super Lig in 2021-22 and will be looking to bounce back to the top-flight in 2022-23.
