Sources: Harvey Elliott in line for new destination, Liverpool termination edges closer

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott is the subject of interest from Bundesliga and Serie A clubs ahead of the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Liverpool attacking midfielder is currently on loan with Aston Villa, where he has played just 97 minutes of Premier League football since the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

Liverpool could opt to recall Elliott in January, but the fact that he has already played for two clubs so far this term would prevent him from heading out on loan once again.

That has cast his long-term future at Anfield into huge doubt, and a permanent cut-price exit this winter has now become a distinct possibility.

Liverpool willing to sell Elliott for reduced fee in January

Aston Villa hold an obligation to buy Elliott for £35million as part of the current loan agreement, but that now looks set to be terminated by his parent club in January.

The Reds are aware that the lack of football he has received in the Second City has seen his value decrease significantly, and they are now willing to sell for a significantly smaller fee than they were holding out for in the summer.

The England youth international starred for the Young Lions in their Euro Under-21s triumph in the summer, and his performances attracted plenty of attention from across Europe.

There was interest from the top flights in both Italy and Germany over the summer, with RB Leipzig among those to chase Elliott’s signature, and Football Insider understands that interest remains ahead of the upcoming window.

Elliott’s current deal at Liverpool does not contain a break clause, and as a result, a direct sale is the only way they will be able to get him off their books in January.

Elliott is not part of Unai Emery’s plans at Aston Villa

Aston Villa ultimately won the race for Elliott’s signature in the summer, but his loan spell in B6 hasn’t played out as he would have expected so far.

The former Fulham academy graduate has been little more than a squad player for Unai Emery, and he hasn’t played a single minute of football since his brief cameo in their victory over Feyenoord on 2 October.

The midfielder was once the Premier League’s youngest ever player when he debuted for his boyhood club as a 16-year-old back in 2019, but his career has stalled in drastic fashion in recent years.

His Villa Park spell hasn’t had the desired effect so far, and Liverpool appear to be on the verge of cutting it short at the earliest opportunity.
