Sources: Hourihane passes Sheffield United medical as Aston Villa exit finalised

Conor Hourihane has passed a Sheffield United medical as he completes a move from Aston Villa, Football Insider has learned.

The Republic of Ireland international has been granted permission to head out of Villa Park again this season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Hourihane has been given the medical all-clear and will now put pen to paper on a loan deal.

He has entered the final year of his contract at Villa and been deemed surplus to requirements by Dean Smith.

Hourihane spent the second half of last season on loan in the Championship with Swansea City.

He scored five times and provided two assists in 24 games for the Welsh club as they reached the play-off final.

The 30-year-old’s only appearance of the season came in Villa’s 6-0 win over Barrow in the Carabao Cup when he captained the side.

The midfielder now has 29 goals and 23 assists in 151 Villa games to his name.

Sheffield United will be hoping Hourihane’s vast Championship experience can help them achieve an instant return to the Premier League.

Slaviša Jokanović was appointed as the new manager this summer but he has endured a nightmare start.

The Blades are currently second from bottom and have not won any of their opening five games.

They have added ex-Preston North End defender Ben Davies on a season-long loan from Liverpool this summer.
