Sources: Huddersfield and Derby County in three-horse race to sign Harvey Knibbs

Huddersfield Town are chasing a move for Cambridge United striker Harvey Knibbs this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Knibbs, 24, is set to become a free agent when his Cambridge contract expires at the end of the month.

Huddersfield have been keeping tabs on Knibbs‘ situation and are preparing a contract offer for the young forward ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

After narrowly surviving relegation in the Championship this season, the Yorkshire club are eager to add more firepower to their squad over the summer window.

However, Football Insider understands that Huddersfield are set to face competition for Knibbs’ signature from EFL duo Derby County and Bristol City.

Both Derby and Bristol City have also been following Knibbs throughout the season and are ready to table offers to try and tempt him to sign.

Knibbs has made 47 appearances across all competitions for Cambridge this season, playing a crucial role in their league, FA Cup and EFL Trophy campaigns.

He has scored five and assisted six this season to help Cambridge achieve a 20th-placed finish in League One and narrowly avoid relegation.

Knibbs has spent the entirety of his senior career at Cambridge after joining the club aged 20 in 2019.

Prior to his Cambridge move, Knibbs progressed through Aston Villa’s academy system, signing a professional contract with the Birmingham-based club at the end of the 2016/17 season.

He has made 156 appearances for Cambridge since completing the switch, scoring 25 and assisting 11 times.
