Sources: ‘Huge’ Harvey Barnes reveal as Newcastle United advance on deal
Harvey Barnes is keen to leave Leicester City for Newcastle United this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (7 July) that the Magpies and manager Eddie Howe are pushing to complete a deal for the 25-year-old this summer.
A well-placed source has revealed Barnes‘ age and extensive top-flight experience is behind Howe’s willingness to strike a deal.
Sources also told Football Insider on Saturday (8 July) that Newcastle are ready to sell Allan Saint-Maximin to fund a deal and clear room in the squad for the Englishman’s arrival.
And a well-placed source has revealed Barnes himself is keen on making the move to St James’ Park this summer.
It is believed the project in place at Newcastle is attractive for the Leicester star – as well as the opportunity to play under Howe.
Sources say the prospect of playing regular Champions League football is also a “huge draw” for the 25-year-old – who has had a taste of European action with the Foxes.
West Ham and Aston Villa are the most interested potential suitors away from Newcastle – and although they will play European football next term, Barnes is keen to play at the highest possible level.
He managed a healthy return of 13 goals and three assists in 40 games across all competitions last term – despite Leicester’s relegation to the Championship.
His contract at the King Power Stadium runs until June 2025.

Barnes is not the only player in the crosshairs of Newcastle as the summer window heats up.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (7 July) that as well as a wide forward, the Magpies are looking to add a left-back and centre-back to their squad before the transfer deadline.
