Sources: Huge update on Man City FFP case with new hearing date set

Man City may not learn the verdict from their Financial Fair Play charges until 2026, sources have told Football Insider.

The Manchester club are facing 115 FFP charges following an investigation carried out by the Premier League that was opened in 2018.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters confirmed this week that a ‘date has been set’ for City’s hearing, but refused to say when.

As revealed by Football Insider in November, City and the Premier League agreed to a trial date in Autumn 2024.

Speaking to Football Insider, sources said the case ‘could run into 2026 due to the scale of the charges’.

Any appeals made following the hearing will have to be heard by the Premier League which is expected to add months to the timeline of the case.

The charges were announced in February last year, with City’s alleged breaches dating back to 2009.

New ‘fast-track’ Premier League regulations state that all financial cases must be settled within the same season to provide clarity over sanctions, but City’s charges precede the introduction of the new rules.

Therefore, Everton and Nottingham Forest’s latest breach of the Profit and Sustainability Rules are likely to have a verdict delivered before the hearing for City’s 115 charges even begins.

Both top-flight clubs were charged on Monday (15 January) with exceeding the allowable losses over a three-year rolling period.
