Sources: Inter Milan ‘jump at chance’ to re-appoint Tottenham boss Antonio Conte as sack nears

Inter Milan are targeting a move for Tottenham manager Antonio Conte as they prepare to sack Simone Inzaghi, sources have told Football Insider.

The Serie A giants have remained on good terms with the Spurs boss, who led them to the league title for the first time in 11 years during his two-season reign.

Inter are believed to be aware that Conte’s exit from Tottenham is nearing and well-placed sources say they would “jump at the chance” to appoint him for a second time.

Conte left the club in May 2021 just weeks after being crowned champions and ending Juventus’ run of nine consecutive titles in what was a historic triumph.

The combustible Italian’s spell ended, as it normally always does with him, following a disagreement with the board over transfers.

Conte has made no attempt to hide his situation at Spurs, where he is out of contract at the end of the season and has regularly called on the club to demonstrate more ambition in the market to go to the next level.

The manager’s reputation among the north London club’s supporters took a major hit on Wednesday night when they were eliminated from the Champions League following a goalless home draw against AC Milan.

Tottenham are assessing potential replacements for Conte, with former boss Mauricio Pochettino a leading contender for a second spell at the club.

Football Insider revealed last month that the Londoners are also monitoring Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi as they assess potential replacements.

Conte could also now secure a second spell at a club of his own, with Inzaghi expected to be dismissed, and an exit in the coming weeks is believed to be a strong possibility, according to sources in Italy.

Spurs and Conte held preliminary talks over a new deal at the end of last year but they have gone no further than that.

Whispers are now growing that the Italian will leave the London giants at the end of the season with neither party especially enthusiastic about committing to a huge-money extension.
