Sources: Inter Milan pull plug on Romelu Lukaku deal

Inter Milan have ruled out a move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old striker is currently on loan with the Italian giants, but a permanent move looks unlikely because of the money required to sign him full-time.

The Blues spent £97.5million to bring Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge in 2021 and while they will be willing to accept a small loss on their investment, they will still require a significant bid to allow Lukaku to leave.

Inter are in no financial shape to submit a suitable bid to Chelsea and have therefore ruled themselves out of a move for the Belgian striker.

It is understood that Chelsea are still keen to sell Lukaku this summer, with an exit deemed best for all parties after he struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League on his return.

Lukaku scored 15 goals in 44 appearances in the 2021/22 season for Chelsea, but fell out of favour with the London club after publicly criticising the club and expressing his desire to leave in an interview.

With a move to Inter off the cards and a return to Chelsea also unlikely after his scathing interview incident, Lukaku finds himself in limbo ahead of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea

Chelsea will look to find new suitors to buy the Belgian powerhouse but may have to take a considerable cut on their initial investment.

Lukaku’s price tag hasn’t been helped by his poor 2022/23 season – he has scored seven goals in 25 appearances this campaign.
