Sources: Jewison Bennette undergoing Sunderland medical today after deal agreed

Sunderland have agreed a deal for Costa Rican forward Jewison Bennette, sources have told Football Insider.

The 18-year-old has arrived on Wearside to undergo a medical after the Black Cats agreed a fee with his club Club Sport Herediano.

The left-winger, who can also operate as a central striker, is set to put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland manager Alex Neil is keen to bolster his attack prior to the window closing and Bennette is seen as a player who can help the club both now and in the future.

The wide-man has made an electric start to the 2022-23 campaign in the Costa Rican top-flight.

He has contributed two goals and one assist in four league appearances.

The teenager has six caps to his name for Costa Rica already after making his international debut in August 2021.

Bennette is yet to score for his country but has provided two assists in his last three outings.

Speaking ahead of his prospective move to the Stadium of Light, the winger said: “I am very happy and excited about this new opportunity.

“I hope to do things well and do my best to move forward.”

Bennette is set to become Sunderland’s seventh signing of the transfer window.

The Black Cats have already welcomed Daniel Ballard, Ellis Simms, Alex Bass, Jack Clarke, Leon Dajaku and Aji Alese to the club this summer.
