Sources: John Eustace emerges as a leading contender for Blackburn Rovers job

Blackburn Rovers are eyeing former Birmingham City boss John Eustace as a replacement for wantaway manager Jon Dahl Tomasson

Former Birmingham boss John Eustace is in the frame to replace wantaway Jon Dahl Tomasson as Blackburn Rovers manager, sources have told Football Insider.

Tomasson is on the verge of quitting Blackburn Rovers after 18 months in charge at Ewood Park with the Dane in talks with Rovers officials over his departure.

Rovers are drawing up a list of potential replacements and Eustace is understood to figure highly on their wanted list.

Eustace is highly regarded within coaching circles after impressing at Birmingham before his shock sacking in October to be replaced by Wayne Rooney.

Eustace spent 15 months as manager of Birmingham and he had them in the top six in the Championship after 11 games prior to his departure.

His role at Birmingham was his second full-time stint as a first-team manager after spending two seasons with National League side Kidderminster Harriers between 2016 and 2018.

In between these roles, he gained experience as an assistant coach at Queens Park Rangers and the Republic of Ireland national team.

Should the 44-year-old be given the Rovers job this week, he would make a quick return to former club Birmingham when they play them at St Andrew’s on Tuesday evening (13 February).
