Sources: Kieran Dowell undergoes Rangers medical as first signing close
Kieran Dowell has had a medical at Rangers as his free transfer from Norwich City inches closer, sources have told Football Insider.
The midfielder, 25, is out of contract at the English Championship club this summer and is set to leave as a free agent at the end of the season.
It is understood that Dowell snubbed a new deal with the Canaries in order to leave and start a new chapter of his career.
Dowell’s availability this summer put Rangers and Michael Beale on alert, and the Gers boss has given the green light to the club hierarchy to complete the move.
Dowell has been offered a three-year contract to sign for the Glasgow giants this summer.
Prior to finalising the deal, Dowell is understood to have undergone a medical last week so that the Rangers staff could assess a knee injury he picked up in February.
Dowell became a pivotal part of the Norwich side following David Wagner’s arrival, starting all of the German’s first seven games at the club after he was appointed on 6 January.

The midfielder scored four goals and assisted once in that stretch of seven games, before picking up an injury to ligaments in his knee which has left him sidelined ever since.
Initial reports suggested he would be back fit for the second half of April, meaning Dowell is on track to become Rangers’ first signing of the summer barring any complications during his recovery period.
