Sources: Kieran McKenna’s stance on quitting Ipswich for Man United revealed

Kieran McKenna has been heavily rumoured to be of interest for a number of Premier League jobs in recent weeks and has long-term links to Man United.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new manager come the end of the season, while McKenna‘s name has also been mentioned at Crystal Palace, West Ham and Brighton.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the 39-year-old remains focused on the task at hand with Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys are in with a shot at promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking and currently sit third in the Championship table.

McKenna is determined to lead his side back into the top tier of English football, while his contract at Portman Road is likely to deter interest in his signature.

Kieran McKenna to snub Premier League interest

Odds were recently slashed on McKenna to take over at Brighton amid concerns about the future of Fabian Hurzeler, who has lost the trust of many Brighton fans.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are long-term admirers and need to replace Oliver Glasner, while West Ham, Man United and Chelsea have all eyed him in the past.

Despite the constant speculation regarding his future, however, sources say McKenna is not considering leaving Ipswich any time soon.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Yeah, I don’t think he’d be looking at a move away from Ipswich right now as well.

“He was linked with Manchester United and Chelsea before he signed a new contract at Ipswich over a year ago as well.

“He’s under contract at Portman Road until 2028 and he’s on a lucrative deal there as well, so it would be an expensive one if anybody wanted to lure McKenna away.

“Look, their focus is on trying to win promotion back to the Premier League and I’m sure that’s all Kieran McKenna is thinking of right now.

“I don’t think there’s any plans for McKenna right now to be leaving Ipswich. He wants to try and finish the job and get them back to the Premier League following their relegation last season.”

Who will be the next Man United manager?

A number of big-name managers have been linked with the Man United role in recent weeks, while Michael Carrick continues to be tipped for the job.

Football Insider revealed on 18 January that Carrick could land the permanent Man United job as his position as interim manager puts him in the box seat.

However, any decision about his future will be made closer to the end of the season, and there is no guarantee that his displays will land him the job.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 26 January that Man United will not rush into hiring Carrick and plan to assess their options at the end of the season.

As things stand, the plan remains to appoint a top-class manager at the end of the season regardless of how well the interim boss does during his spell.
