Sources: Kilmarnock’s stance on accepting David Watson offer from Rangers

Kilmarnock star David Watson could be allowed to leave Rugby Park in the January transfer window as Rangers prepare to step up their interest.

Watson, 20, is out of contract at the end of the season and has attracted interest from Scotland’s top clubs as well as a number of English Championship outfits.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Kilmarnock are prepared to listen to offers for the midfielder mid-way through the season as they see it as their last chance to raise important funds from his sale.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 21 November that Rangers could sign Watson on a cut-price deal as they aim to capitalise on his contract situation.

Danny Rohl‘s side have been keeping close tabs on the midfielder’s development and could now be ready to step up their interest when the window opens.

Kilmarnock to accept Rangers’ offer for David Watson

Watson has made 20 appearances for Kilmarnock so far this season, and would bring dynamism and experience to Rangers despite his young age.

There is now a growing feeling that he could be allowed to leave in January for the right price, with Kilmarnock reluctant to see him leave for free.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, it’s a potential move that could happen for Rangers, as you said.

“The contract situation at Kilmarnock for Watson, opens the door maybe for Rangers to land the player for a cut price fee in the new year.

“Obviously, Kilmarnock are facing a battle to keep hold of him because no deal has been agreed to keep the player at Rugby Park and they could be forced to let him go.

“Again they would probably have to accept a cut price fee rather than his market value due to his contract situation, which it looks like they might be open to.

“He’s a player with huge potential and if Rangers could land him for a cup price fee in January could be a real smart pick up by Danny Rohl’s side.”

Rangers plan to land cut-price deal for Watson in January

Football Insider revealed on 28 October that Rangers want three new players in January, with a new midfielder firmly on their list of targets.

Watson’s potential availability given his contract situation at Kilmarnock could open the door for Rangers to swoop in with a cut-price offer.

That situation would be ideal for the Ibrox club, as they are expected to be limited in their January business, with Rohl asked to work with what he has available.

Football Insider revealed that Rangers could struggle to back Rohl due to their heavy spending under Russell Martin during the summer window.

They Glasgow club have struggled financially in recent seasons, and their £26million summer spend has heavily restricted what they can do in January.
