Sources: Leeds finalise six-figure McDonald signing after bid accepted

Leeds United have reached a full agreement with Hamilton sensation Josh McDonald, sources have told Football Insider.

McDonald has accepted an offer of an initial scholarship that will be converted into a professional deal.

The midfielder was at United’s Elland Road headquarters last week to finalise the deal, which will secure Hamilton a fee of around £150,000.

The 16-year-old has undergone a medical and completed the formalities in a deal which is seen as a major coup by Leeds.

Rangers also made an offer to McDonald but Leeds have won the race.

McDonald is an ‘exceptional talent’, sources say, who is one of the best in his age group in Scotland.

Last week (4 May), Football Insider revealed that a number of Premier League and Championship clubs have been monitoring the midfielder and have sent scouts to watch him in action.

McDonald was already playing an a level above his age at Hamilton and has represented Scotland at every level of the pyramid, most recently for Scotland’s Under-16s side.

Leeds are looking to add fresh legs to their ranks despite the threat of relegation next season.

The Whites languishing at the bottom end of the Premier League table with just three games left to play that include top four contenders Newcastle United and Tottenham.

The Whites sacked manager Javi Gracia last week and replaced him with renowned English boss Sam Allardyce and an attempt to keep them in the top flight next season.
