Sources: Leeds make move for Ryan Giles as late-window signing blitz begins

Leeds United have enquired about taking Luton Town’s Ryan Giles on loan this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old features on the Whites’ list of transfer targets as they step up plans to bring in their first signing this month in what is shaping up to be a late-window blitz for the club.

It is believed that Leeds have prioritised a left-back this window as well as a right-back following the termination of Djed Spence’s loan from Tottenham and Luke Ayling’s move to Middlesbrough.

Giles has made 11 Premier League appearances for Rob Edwards’ side this season and has not managed to nail down his place in the defence.

Leeds are eager for players with Championship experience, which Giles gained after playing in all but one league game for Middlesbrough while on loan from Wolves.

He moved to Kenilworth Road last summer for a reported fee of £5million, but the Hatters could be willing to send him off on loan to gain regular minutes back in the second tier.

The Englishman has spent most of his senior career on loan, including stints at Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City, Rotherham United and Coventry City.

He has made 119 appearances in the Championship throughout his career, scoring two goals and providing 22 assists.

Sources have also told Football Insider (13 January) that Leeds are among many sides, including Rangers and Sheffield United, eager to sign West Ham full-back Ben Johnson this month.
