Sources: Leeds to keep playing Illan Meslier – and then sell by 1st September

Leeds United are still planning to sell Illan Meslier before the 1 September transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that both player and club are happy to keep Meslier in the side in order to put him in the “shop window”.

Meslier has started all three of Leeds’ Championship games so far this season.

The Whites will hold out for the right offer for the shot-stopper – but so far nothing has materialised.

Football Insider revealed last month (28 July) that Leeds will ask for bids of between £20-25million for Meslier.

The Yorkshire side see the Frenchman as a sellable asset as they look to raise funds for transfer business of their own in the final month of the window.

Sources have told Football Insider (18 August) that Leeds are ready to add a central midfielder, left-back and striker in their next wave of summer transfer business.

Daniel Farke’s side have already wrapped up deals for Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Karl Darlow and Sam Byram since relegation from the Premier League in May.

France Under-21 international Meslier is yet to keep a clean sheet for winless Leeds in the Championship this season.

The shot-stopper was a regular starter for Leeds in the Premier League last term but was dropped for Joel Robles by Sam Allardyce in the final four games of the season.

He has racked up 126 appearances during his time at Elland Road, conceding 212 goals and keeping just 30 clean sheets.

Meslier is under contract until June 2026.

In other news, Leeds now want to sign striker after £10m bid submitted.
