Sources: Leeds United agree personal terms with Willy Gnonto

Leeds United have agreed personal terms with FC Zurich striker Willy Gnonto, sources have told Football Insider.

The Yorkshire giants are closing in on a deal for the Italian forward after further negotiations over the last 24 hours.

Leeds have an agreement with Gnonto and his representatives and are now working on settling a fee with his club.

United have offered £4m for the 18-year-old, but Zurich are holding out for a fee in the region of £7m.

Talks are ongoing and further negotiations are set to be held in the coming days as Leeds edge closer to another summer signing.

Gnonto spent eight years in the Inter Milan youth system though he did not make an appearance for the club before moving to Zurich in April 2020.

This season, the hitman has made nine appearances in all competitions for the Swiss side, scoring once.

Four of those outings have come in European competition, with Zurich now hoping to make it into the Europa League group stage after being knocked out of Champions League qualifying by Qarabag FK.

In his 71 total senior appearances, Gnonto has scored 12 goals and registered nine assists.

He also already has four senior Italy appearances and one international goal to his name.

Leeds’ striker woes have continued into the 2022-23 season with Patrick Bamford picking up an injury just 28 minutes into his side’s 2-2 draw with Southampton last weekend (13 August).

Bamford was only able to make 10 appearances in all competitions last season due to injury.
