Sources: Leeds United handed boost in bid to sign ‘amazing’ Raphael Guerreiro

Leeds United are plotting a move for Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old Bundesliga star is out of contract this summer and the Whites are closely monitoring his negotiations with Dortmund.

It is understood that talks between Guerreiro and Dortmund have stalled in recent weeks, and it looks increasingly likely that he’ll leave the German giants this summer as a free agent.

Guerreiro remains a regular starter for Dortmund having made 26 appearances across all competitions this season, and he scored and assisted in his latest start against FC Schalke last Saturday.

Leeds made a move to sign Guirreiro in January but plan to reignite their interest in the Portugal international.

The only difficulty for the Yorkshire club is their precarious position in the Premier League table – relegation this season would end their pursuit of Guerreiro.

As per Football Insider pundit Kevin Campbell, Guerreiro would be an “amazing” signing for Leeds to help fix their “scary” defence.

Guerreiro is currently focused on the tight Bundesliga title race with Dortmund, with his side trailing Bayern Munich by just two points at the top of the German division.

He has spent seven seasons with Dortmund after joining them from French club Lorient in 2016for a £9.5million transfer fee.

During his time in Germany, Guerreiro has picked up two DFB-Pokal winners’ medals and a DFL-Supercup.
