Sources: Leeds United have ‘big’ interest in Southampton star Che Adams

Leeds United are plotting a summer move for Southampton striker Che Adams, sources have told Football Insider.

The Whites are believed to be among a number of Premier League sides ready to sign the 26-year-old “in a heartbeat” if the Saints are relegated to the Championship.

Sources have told Football Insider that Leeds are “big admirers” of Adams after failing to bring the forward to Elland Road in a number of recent transfer windows.

The former Birmingham star has less than 18 months to run on his deal at St Mary’s Stadium – which nets him a reported wage of £30,000-a-week.

He has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 29 games as a regular starter for Southampton this season.

Adams joined the south coast club for a reported fee of £15million in 2019 and has gone on to score 30 goals in 139 appearances.

The Leicester-born hitman switched his allegiances to Scotland in 2021 and has scored six goals in 22 caps since.

Southampton are in serious relegation danger after 11 seasons back in the Premier League.

They sit one point from safety after 25 games following the sackings of Nathan Jones and Ralph Hasenhuttl this season.

Leeds are also in the relegation mix despite the recent appointment of Javi Gracia – and are only outside the drop zone on goal difference.

The Whites’ top scorer Rodrigo Moreno and long-serving hitman Patrick Bamford are out currently of action through injury.

Georginio Rutter was signed for a reported £35.5million in January but is yet to contribute a goal in four substitute appearances in the Premier League.
