Sources: Leeds United in deadline-day race to sign Leicester City ace Harry Souttar
Leeds United are exploring a last-gasp move for Leicester City defender Harry Souttar, sources have told Football Insider.
The Whites have been keen to bolster their centre-back options throughout the mid-season window and have so far failed with a loan move for Everton defender Ben Godfrey.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (31 January) that Sheffield United have also enquired about 25-year-old Leicester ace Souttar.
Chris Wilder’s side have now made contact with the Championship leaders Leicester about a potential deal for the giant centre-back.
The Blades’ Yorkshire rivals Leeds are now set to put up late competition for Souttar’s signature ahead of the transfer deadline at 11pm on Thursday (1 February).
Souttar is out of favour under Enzo Maresca at Leicester so far in the 2023-24 campaign.
The ex-Stoke City ace has played just four times totalling 188 minutes of football this term, with Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard the current first-choice centre-back pairing for the Foxes.
Souttar is now away at the Asian Cup in Qatar with Australia and has reached the quarter-final stage with his Socceroos teammates.
He has played the full game in each of his countries’ four fixtures so far.
The 25-year-old only finalised a move to Leicester 12 months ago but was relegated from the Premier League with the Foxes just months later.
Souttar, who has a contract at the King Power Stadium running until June 2028, has played 64 times in the Championship.
He cost Leicester a reported fee of £15million last year (2023).

Leeds sit fourth in the Championship and are one of the sides rivalling the Foxes for promotion back to the Premier League.
The Whites can temporarily enter second place if they beat Bristol City away from home on Friday (2 February).
