Sources: Leeds United in ‘very advanced talks’ to sign Manuel Benson after Southampton hijack

Leeds United are in ‘very advanced talks’ to sign Burnley winger Manuel Benson, sources have told Football Insider.

The deal is not done yet but it is understood to be close following new discussions held on Saturday morning.

Leeds are working on a loan deal to sign the 26-year-old until the end of the 2023-24 season.

As revealed by Football Insider, Southampton had a £1million-plus loan offer accepted for Benson by Burnley but their deal has stalled.

Leeds are now in the driving seat to sign Benson this month as Daniel Farke looks to strengthen his side ahead of a promotion push.

The Whites currently sit fourth in the Championship table – seven points away from the automatic promotion spots.

Farke is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this month with both Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville attracting interest from the Premier League.

As revealed by Football Insider, Leeds could be willing to let Gnonto leave this month amid interest from the Serie A and Premier League.

Benson’s arrival would provide extra depth in Farke’s squad should either Gnonto or Summerville depart Elland Road this month.

The Belgian winger has scored 14 goals and assisted four times for Burnley in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Despite playing a pivotal role in their promotion season, Benson has fallen out of favour at Burnley this season with just five appearances to his name in 2023-24.
