Sources: Leeds working on permanent Joe Rodon deal as Tottenham price rockets towards £20m

Leeds United are working on a deal to sign Joe Rodon permanently from Tottenham following his excellent first six months at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

However, a well-placed insider has revealed that a deal is “unlikely” to be completed this month due to the cost of the transfer fee.

It is believed that the Whites’ preference is to get an agreement in place over a full-time move as soon as possible amid fears the Welshman’s price could skyrocket if he continues to excel at Elland Road in the second half of the season.

There is expected to be plenty of interest in the 26-year-old in the summer when clubs across the board will have more money to spend on permanent signings.

Rodon has been a huge influence for Daniel Farke’s side since joining from Spurs in the summer, having started 23 Championship games and helping to keep nine clean sheets.

He moved to Spurs in October 2020 from Swansea City for a reported £11million but failed to establish himself as a key member of the squad in north London.

However, his outings in the second tier this season have raised his profile significantly and he is expected to fetch a fee larger than what Tottenham expected just a few months ago.

His value could rise beyond the £15m mark, even towards £20m, if he continues to excel for Leeds and they could on to achieve their promotion ambitions.

Leeds are yet to make their first signing of the January window, but as revealed by Football Insider (18 January), they have enquired about taking Luton Town’s Ryan Giles on loan this month.

They are also in the picture to sign West Ham defender Ben Johnson, with Football Insider revealing (13 January) that they are in a race with Rangers and Sheffield United for the 23-year-old.

Leeds sit fourth in the Championship after their 3-0 victory over Cardiff City (13 January) on Saturday and next face Preston North End at Elland Road on Sunday (21 January).
