Sources: Leicester City blocked from signing Kim Min-jae in new blow
Leicester City missed out to Napoli on the signing of defender Kim Min-jae due to lack of funds, sources have told Football Insider.
Brendan Rodgers had made the centre-back, 25, one of his top targets this summer but did not get the backing from the club.
The Foxes manager has been informed he needs to sell before he can buy any new players.
Missing out on Kim is the latest blow for Leicester in this summer’s window with the club yet to sign a new player.
Kim joined Napoli on Wednesday (27 July) as a direct replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly, who joined Chelsea earlier this month.
Rodgers has suffered numerous injury blows to his defenders over the last 12 months.
Wesley Fofana suffered a long-term injury in last summer’s pre-season while James Justin only returned from injury in time to make 13 appearances at the end of 2021-22 season.
Leicester are yet to sell a senior player this summer, however, on 26 July, French outlet L’Equipe reported Kasper Schmeichel, 35, has agreed to join Nice.
The Foxes icon is out of contract in the summer of 2023, meaning he could agree a pre-contract move to a foreign club from January if he fails to agree a new deal.
Leicester finished eighth in the 2021-22 Premier League, missing out on qualification for the Europa Conference League by five points.

Leicester start their Premier League campaign at home against Brentford on 7 August.
Before that, they will play their final game of pre-season against Sevilla on Sunday (31 July).
In other news, sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle, Leicester and Crystal Palace are plotting moves for Strasbourg striker Ludovic Ajorque.
