Sources: Leicester City midfielder Kasey McAteer agrees to join AFC Wimbledon

Leicester City midfielder Kasey McAteer is set to join AFC Wimbledon on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The London outfit have agreed a deal with the Premier League club and are putting the finishing touches to a deadline-day deal.

AFC Wimbledon have fended off competition from multiple EFL clubs to agree a deal for McAteer.

He is highly-regarded at Leicester after coming through the ranks and made his Premier League debut in December 2021.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers and Leicester are happy to loan out again to AFC Wimbledon so that he can regular first-team football.

The 21-year-old joined Leicester’s under-18s side in 2020 before heading out on loan to Forest Green last January.

He returned to the King Power Stadium in the summer and has had a few chances in the first team.

The midfielder has not featured in a Premier League game for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season but has featured in both the FA Cup and the League cup for the Foxes this season.

McAteer has made 12 Premier League 2 appearances for Leicester’s under-21 side this season and has scored three goals and provided one assist in those outings.

AFC Wimbledon are currently tenth in League Two with 39 points from 27 games and have only lost one of their previous five matches.

The Dons will be hoping to have McAteer through the door before their trip to Leyton Orient on Saturday (4 February).
