Sources: Lincoln City agree to sign Swansea City attacker Whittaker

Lincoln City have agreed a deal to sign Swansea City winger Morgan Whittaker on loan in January, Football Insider understands.

Lincoln have held a long-term interest in the 20-year-old after trying to sign him in the summer window.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Swansea have now given the green light to Whittaker heading to Lincoln ahead of the January window.

He has slipped down the pecking order at the Liberty Stadium and the Championship outfit are happy for him to get regular playing experience.

Whittaker is yet to start a league game this season, with just 76 minutes of action to his name in the Championship.

However, Swans boss Russell Martin has handed the versatile attacker three starts in the League Cup.

A hat-trick in the second round against Plymouth Argyle are the only goals Whittaker has scored this season.

Swansea signed Whittaker for a fee in the region of £700,000 from Derby County in February of this year.

In total, he has contributed five goals in 22 appearances for the Welsh side.

His contract at the Liberty Stadium is set to run until the summer of 2025.

Lincoln City are in the market for reinforcements in January after a disappointing start to the 2021-22 campaign.

Michael Appleton’s side have won just one of their last nine games across all competitions.

Goals have been difficult to come by and Appleton sees Whittaker as a solution to the problem.
