Sources: Liverpool ‘doing everything’ to keep Dominik Szoboszlai after ‘exit talk‘

Liverpool are eager to tie Dominik Szoboszlai down to a new contract after intense interest from Real Madrid.

Despite Arne Slot valuing Szoboszlai at £100million, that hasn’t deterred European giants los Blancos from coming after him.

Sources told Football Insider that Real Madrid remain heavily interested in Szoboszlai as Xabi Alonso looks to bolster his midfield.

The Hungarian has become one of the Reds’ key men and the club will be determined to hold onto him in the upcoming transfer window.

Liverpool to ramp up contract talks with Szoboszlai with ‘improved salary’

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the ex-RB Leipzig man joins the Reds’ list of stars they want to tie down to new deals.

The 25-year-old has been involved in seven goals in 16 appearances in all competitions this season and has been one of the standout performers in an inconsistent campaign for the defending Premier League champions.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “His versatility has been so vital to Slot this season.

“He’s played right-back, he’s played defensive-midfield, he’s played attacking-midfield, he’s all-round one of the top young midfielders in Europe right now.

“So, Liverpool won’t want to even consider letting him go and talks have started about a new contract as well and an improved salary just to reflect his importance in that Liverpool side.

“So, I’m sure Liverpool will be doing everything they can to keep Szoboszlai amid all the talk that he potentially could be lured away.

“By all accounts, he’s happy at Anfield as well, he’s happy with his role in the team. So I’m sure there’d be a willingness from their party to try and get a new deal agreed.”

Andy Robertson next on contract extension list with Celtic rumours swirling

On top of the Hungarian’s long-term future being a top priority for the Reds, they also have a whole host of other major names who are uncertain over their futures at the club.

Sources told Football Insider that Liverpool are working on a deal for Andy Robertson to stay at the club.

The Scotsman is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season on a free, highlighting the urgency with which Slot needs to operate.

Linked with a move to Glasgow, Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider that Celtic may have to wait for Robertson if Liverpool opt to keep the left-back.

Wyness believes the Reds have an option to extend his contract until the end of the 2026-27 season which could block the Hoops from an enticing move.
