Sources: Liverpool fear Ibrahima Konate is close to formal agreement
Liverpool are fearing the worst regarding Ibrahima Konate and a transfer to Real Madrid, sources have told Football Insider.
The 26-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning he is able to agree pre-contract terms with Xabi Alonso’s side from 1 January.
Last month, Football Insider revealed that Konate was edging closer to a Liverpool exit with talks between player and club failing to progress.
Sources say that negotiations over a new contract for the French centre-back are still “deadlocked” with time now running out for Arne Slot’s side.

Real Madrid remain interested in Ibrahima Konate
Konate has been heavily criticised for his performances so far this season, although he has just delivered impressive displays in the last two matches against Aston Villa in the Premier League and, coincidentally, Real in the Champions League.
Despite his poor form, sources say that Real Madrid remain interested in the defender with him being available on a free transfer from 1 July next year.
Football Insider revealed on 4 October that Liverpool are extremely reluctant to lose Konate and will do all they can to keep him.
However, as both the club and player continue to disagree over contract terms, the chances of an exit are growing by the day.
Liverpool eye Ibrahima Konate replacements
If Konate does depart next summer, the Reds will be desperate to bring in a long-term replacement.
Liverpool are still optimistic about signing Marc Guehi, after their summer move for the Crystal Palace defender broke down on deadline day.

Guehi will leave Palace at the end of the season, and it is believed that Slot’s side are leading the race for his signature.
Dayot Upamecano has also been linked with Liverpool, as his contract at Bayern Munich runs out next summer, but the centre-back could still agree a new deal with the German club.
