Sources: Liverpool in line to re-sign Jurgen Klopp favourite next year, contract and paperwork already done

Liverpool could be about to re-sign centre-back Jarell Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen next year, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants sold the youngster to Leverkusen for £35million last summer, but they have a buy-back clause as part of the deal that can be triggered from 2027.

Qaunsah’s return to Anfield can be sealed with a pre-agreed fee, and the contract and paperwork are already in place for the transfer to go through.

Liverpool are set to lose Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer at the end of the season, and as a result, they have quickly turned their attention towards their long-term centre-back targets.

Jurgen Klopp rated Jarell Quansah extremely highly

Quansah featured regularly for Liverpool last season, as he made 25 appearances in all competitions, with Arne Slot making use of his versatility on several occasions.

However, the Dutchman decided at the end of the campaign that the 23-year-old’s services were no longer needed at Anfield, although he could now be about to backtrack on that.

Quansah progressed through the Merseysiders’ youth ranks earlier in his career and went on to become a trusted first-team player under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp.

The German has previously lavished praise on the defender on several occasions, not least in January 2024, when he made his admiration of the emerging star clear.

“Jarell has played an absolutely outstanding season,” Klopp told Merseysport Live.

“He is one of those players who people already knew he was a real talent. He came on against Newcastle and was outstanding in a really difficult game, and from that moment it’s all been fine its really good.”

Qaunsah may have thought that his Liverpool career was over for good when Slot and Co. moved him out the door last season, but 2027 could prove to be the year when he gets his second chance at his boyhood club.

Liverpool chase world-beating forward

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Liverpool are chasing a one vs one forward this summer, as they look to add the finishing touches to their new-look attack.

Sources have indicated that the Reds feel that they are lacking a pacy, direct attacker who can harm opponents while carrying the ball, akin to the likes of Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz.

The Premier League champions have already sent their scouts and data analysts away to assess players aged 24 or below who fit into their desired criteria, with a view to making a concrete move towards a target in the summer.

Hugo Ekitike has flourished for the Merseysiders in his debut Premier League campaign, but there is still an acceptance that Slot needs more firepower in his arsenal.
