Sources: Liverpool in race to agree early Youri Tielemans deal
Liverpool are plotting a move for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans as they attempt to add a number of midfielders this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the Merseysiders see a deal for the out-of-contract 25-year-old as tremendous value, but face stiff competition from rivals in England and Europe.
Football Insider revealed on 21 February that Arsenal, Newcastle and Barcelona are racing to seal a deal for Tielemans ahead of his Leicester contract expiry in June.
Sources told this site that it is “unlikely” he will sign renewed terms at the King Power Stadium – despite the Foxes’ best efforts.
As per FBRef, Tielemans is currently paid £35,000-a-week – as he hasn’t extended his contract since joining Leicester in 2019.
Sources with knowledge of the Belgium international’s situation have revealed that he is keen to cash in on his free-agent status this summer.
Tielemans has racked up over 50 combined goals and assists for Leicester, making 187 appearances across all competitions as a regular starter – but is currently sidelined with ankle ligament damage.
Football Insider revealed last month (24 February) that Liverpool have set their sights on signing three new midfielders this summer as they brace for a total overhaul.
Reds stars James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to leave Anfield for free when their contracts expire in June.
Meanwhile, Brazil international Fabinho has come under fire for his below-par performances and Thiago Alcantara has struggled to stay fit.

Nevertheless, Liverpool remain in touch with fourth-place Tottenham with almost three months remaining of the 2022-23 season.
The Reds last failed to qualify for the Champions League in the 2015-16 campaign.
