Sources: Liverpool in race to sign Josko Gvardiol this summer, he’s keen on move
RB Leipzig and Croatia superstar Josko Gvardiol is a target for Liverpool ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that the Merseysiders will face stiff competition from a number of top European clubs for the 21-year-old’s signature.
Gvardiol only signed a new five-year deal in September 2022 but has been linked with a summer move away from Leipzig.
He earns a reported wage of just under £20,000-a-week.
Speaking to The Times last month (19 February), Gvardiol revealed he was the subject of a mega-money bid from Chelsea at the end of the summer-of-2022 transfer window.
In the interview, he confirmed his ambitions to play in the Premier League in the near future.
Gvardiol has made 28 appearances for Leipzig this season as a regular starter for the Bundesliga side, scoring twice.
The 21-year-old also shone for Croatia at the Qatar World Cup, playing every minute and scoring the winner in the third-place playoff against Morocco.
Gvardiol is left-footed – and can play at left-back and at the heart of the defence.
Liverpool have endured an underwhelming 2022-23 season, with injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate playing a part in their poor form.
Joe Gomez, 25, has come in for criticism for his performances while deputising for the first-choice duo.
Football Insider revealed last month (24 February) that Liverpool have also set their sights on signing three new midfielders this summer as they brace for a total overhaul.

The Merseysiders’ only business in the winter window was the signing of winger Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are six points adrift of fourth-place Tottenham ahead of their clash with Man United on Sunday (5 March).
