Sources: Liverpool make Mohamed Salah U-turn after ‘£150m’ offer rejected

Liverpool are set to be open to letting Mo Salah leave this summer as he will have just one year left on his contract.

Salah plunged his future at Liverpool into serious doubt in December after a revealing interview with the press following their draw at Leeds.

Things looked bleak regarding his future on Merseyside as he admitted that he felt the club had thrown him under the bus and his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down.

Despite rumours around a likely exit, the Egyptian legend repaired his relationship with the Dutchman and has remained at Liverpool until at least the end of this season.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, he could well make an exit in the summer if all parties are open to a move.

Salah could leave Liverpool this summer amid Saudi Pro League links

Salah has long been linked with a move to a Saudi Pro League club, with Al Ittihad in particular known to be keen on signing him.

The 33-year-old has not hit the heights expected of him for Liverpool this season, and could be set to leave after nine successful years at Anfield ahead of next term.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “This story never goes away, it rears its head in every transfer window, pretty much. We know that Mo Salah is a top target for the Saudi Pro League.

It was a couple of seasons ago when Al Ittihad made that big £150million offer, which was rejected by Liverpool.

“Look, it’s not been a great season for Mo Salah on and off the pitch. He obviously had that bust-up with Arne Slot, and then obviously his form’s not been anywhere near as good as it was last season, which was going to be hard to replicate.

He’s back in favour right now, but I think his long-term future is definitely in doubt.

He’s in the final 18 months of his contract, come the summer he will just have a year left on this lucrative contract and maybe it could be the right time for a parting of the ways for everybody.”

Aston Villa still have no plans to sign Harvey Elliott permanently

One of Salah’s former teammates who could return to Anfield this summer, Elliott, has certainly not enjoyed his football while out on loan at Aston Villa.

That is because he has barely played any games, with Villa refusing to meet the 10-appearance mark that would see his loan become a £35m obligation to buy.

Unai Emery and the Villa board have held talks with Liverpool over a potential re-negotiation of the clause, but they are still not willing to hand him three more appearances this season as it stands.

Football Insider have also revealed this week that Villa still have no intention of signing Elliott permanently, even for a cut-price fee, so any new deal would have to be a straight loan or include an option to buy him.
