Sources: Liverpool plan to accept Cody Gakpo offer, replacement lined up
Liverpool could look to sell Cody Gakpo this summer if they identify a top transfer target for his left-wing position.
Gakpo has struggled to hit top form for Liverpool this season, and may well be on his way out of the club this summer.
Arne Slot does still see him as a key player within his squad, but if the club’s hierarchy push to sign a new left-winger ahead of next term, Gakpo may well make an exit.
He has scored seven goals in 34 appearances across all competitions in 2025-26, with Bayern Munich’s interest in his services fading after they eyed a move last summer and signed his former teammate, Luis Diaz.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Gakpo is only likely to leave Anfield ahead of next season if a new left-winger is signed.
Cody Gakpo could leave Liverpool if they sign someone to replace him
Diaz’s exit has seen Gakpo become Slot’s first-choice on the left-wing, and he has already started 20 Premier League games this season, compared to 23 across the whole of 2024-25.
The Dutchman’s lack of output has seen many Reds fans turn on him over the last few months, however, and he could well be on his way out soon if the club believe they can upgrade on his abilities.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “If Liverpool were to bring in another left-sided attacker in the summer then maybe that potentially could open the door for a move away for Cody Gakpo.
“But he’s under contract until 2030…by all accounts, he remains happy at the club even though he does come in for a bit of flak from some Liverpool fans for his performances.
“He’s clearly still seen as a key man by Arne Slot, because he keeps picking him.”
Liverpool want Anthony Gordon but face price tag hurdle
Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle star Gordon has been long-standing and well-documented, and he has continued to impress this season, particularly in the Champions League.

Sources have told Football Insider that the Reds remain interested in the England winger ahead of this summer, but could be priced out of a move by Newcastle.
The Magpies are set to demand close to £100million for Gordon, but Liverpool are cautious to spend so much on a single player after Alexander Isak’s struggles this season following his £115m switch from St James’ Park.
Whatever happens with their interest in Gordon is likely to impact Gakpo’s future, and he may well leave Anfield if they can agree a cut-price deal for the England man.
