Sources: Liverpool set sights on West Ham man Tim Steidten amid David Moyes whispers
West Ham technical director Tim Steidten is a leading contender to be the new Liverpool director of football, sources have told Football Insider.
The Merseyside giants have begun their search for a recruitment chief to replace Jorg Schmadtke, who is leaving the club at the end of this month’s transfer window.
Steidten joined West Ham last summer and he was influential in an impressive window of work that featured the marquee signings of Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse.
The German, 44, is highly regarded in recruitment circles after his impressive work at Bayer Leverkusen, helping the club sign the likes of Florian Wirtz, Edmond Tapsoba and Jeremie Frimpong.
However, he has not always seen eye to eye over transfers with manager David Moyes and there have been well-sourced whispers of disagreements over targets and deals.
Sources also told Football Insider earlier this month (21 January) that the Hammers have scheduled fresh contract talks with Moyes, whose contract expires at the end of the season, to extend his current deal at the club.
Liverpool are also planning ahead to replace long-serving manager Jurgen Klopp, who announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season after a nine-year reign.
Sources told Football Insider (28 January) that they are planning to approach Bayer Leverkusen and former Liverpool hero Xabi Alonso, who is their “number one choice”, to replace Klopp.

Liverpool sit top of the Premier League table after three consecutive wins, while West Ham remain sixth after their 2-2 draw against Sheffield United on Sunday 21 January.
The Reds are next in action in the league against Chelsea on Wednesday night (31 January), while the Hammers welcome Bournemouth to the London Stadium on Thursday (1 February).
