Sources: Liverpool surprising stance on Fabio Carvalho revealed
Liverpool still have high hopes for midfield star Fabio Carvalho despite being willing to loan him out again, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (1 January) that the Merseysiders want Carvalho, 21, to play regular first-team football this season after an underwhelming spell with RB Leipzig was cut short.
Championship promotion chasers Leicester and Southampton are among the sides to register an interest in a loan, with Liverpool preferring to send him to the second tier – where the youngster can play regularly.
However, the Reds are set to block the inclusion of a buy option in any potential deal.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Liverpool are in “no rush to cash in” on Carvalho and want to take a closer look at him in regular first-team action away from Anfield.
That stance will likely come as a surprise to Reds fans after the Portugal Under-21 international’s bit-part role with Jurgen Klopp’s first-team last season.
But Klopp is an admirer of the former Fulham star and still plans a big first-team future for him if he can regain his best form with a loan elsewhere.
Carvalho made 15 appearances during his time with RB Leipzig earlier this season, failing to score or assist.
He is under contract at Liverpool until June 2027 after joining from Fulham in 2022.
The 21-year-old made 21 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season and scored three goals – but was not deemed ready to be part of the squad for the 2023-24 campaign.

Carvalho, who can play on either flank and as an attacking midfielder, notched 11 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances in the 2021-22 campaign for Fulham in his last spell in the Championship.
He could return to the second tier this month with Leicester and Southampton both keen – and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Liverpool feel their attractive brand of football would suit the young midfielder.
