Sources: Liverpool’s search for centre-back signing takes new twist
Liverpool may try to sign Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez in a future transfer window and could “look elsewhere” to sign a new centre-back this month.
Ordonez has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most promising centre-backs right now amid his ongoing strong form for Belgian side Club Brugge.
He has featured 23 times in all competitions so far this season to help them into second place in the Pro League, while he has also picked up 14 caps for Ecuador in his career to date.
Football Insider recently revealed that Liverpool are not set to move for Ordonez in the January window, despite reports in his home country claiming that a deal was close to completion.
Even though they will not be signing the 21-year-old this month, the Reds could well look to land his services in the summer window, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

Liverpool still hold an interest in Ordonez despite January snub
Football Insider revealed in November that Newcastle had registered an interest in Ordonez, with Liverpool and Aston Villa also named as potential suitors.
He has now emerged onto the Reds’ radar even further as they seek to sign new centre-back cover, and although a January move is not on the cards, they may well be in for his signature very soon regardless.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I’m sure he’s a player that they (Liverpool) will continue to monitor and scout, and maybe further down the line they might look at making a move for Ordonez.

“But right now it doesn’t seem that Liverpool will be making a move for the centre-back in this January window, and maybe they’ll look elsewhere to bring in a new centre-back, if they do at all.“
Liverpool battling Premier League rivals in Jeremy Jacquet race
There have been constant question marks around Liverpool’s centre-backs this season, amid Ibrahima Konate’s poor form and Virgil van Dijk‘s drop-off compared to previous campaigns.
As well as Ordonez, Liverpool have registered an interest in Jacquet ahead of January, as he shines with Rennes in Ligue 1 this season.

They are not the only Premier League club with an interest in his services, though, as Chelsea also want to sign Jacquet, while league leaders Arsenal have him on their radar too.
All three clubs could look to add to their respective defensive depth in the January window, with the Frenchman seemingly a more likely option for Liverpool right now than Ordonez.
