Sources: Luton Town beat Leeds United to Daiki Hashioka deal – announcement expected within 24hrs

Luton Town have finalised the signing of Sint-Truidense right-back Daiki Hashioka – beating several clubs to a deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (29 January) that the 24-year-old jetted into the UK to complete a medical and seal a move to Kenilworth Road.

The finishing touches to Hashioka’s arrival are now close to completion and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that an announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.

He is set to put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal with Luton.

Leeds United and KRC Genk are among the sides to have had an interest in the Japan international in the January transfer window.

But it is believed Luton moved quickly to see off interest elsewhere and seal a deal.

Meanwhile, Leeds are pursuing a deal for Everton’s Ben Godfrey and, as revealed by Football Insider, are submitting a new bid after their opening offer was rejected.

Manager Rob Edwards had prioritised the arrival of a new right-back with Man City loanee Issa Kabore the only natural right-sided defender currently on the books at Kenilworth Road.

Hashioka has impressed in Belgium since joining Sint-Truidense from Urawa Reds in 2021.

The 24-year-old has managed two goals and two assists in 19 appearances across all competitions this season.

He has played 91 times in total for Truidense since his arrival, notching two goals and 14 assists.
