Sources: Luton Town launch last-gasp move to sign Sheffield United midfielder Luke Freeman
Luton Town are trying to beat the deadline to sign Sheffield United midfielder Luke Freeman, Football Insider understands.
Freeman has found himself down the pecking order at Sheffield United this season.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that United are ready to offload Freeman with his contract due to expire in the summer and Luton are ready to offer the 29-year-old a move to Kenilworth Road.
He has made just four Championship appearances for the Blades this term, including one start.
Freeman moved to Bramall Lane from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2019 but has failed to make an impression.
The former England youth international has managed 24 appearances across all competitions for Sheffield United.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at fellow Championship side Nottingham Forest.
Luton Town are in the market for defensive reinforcements after allowing Glen Rea to join League One outfit Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season earlier today (31 January).
Freeman would offer the Hatters vast experience with almost 200 appearances in the second-tier.
Nathan Jones’ currently sit in 10th, level on points with Sheffield United who are 11th.

They are just six points behind the play-off places but have at least one game in hand over eight of the nine teams above them.
Luton are next in action tomorrow (1 February) when they travel to Swansea City.
In other news, Sheffield United have been tipped to complete two new signings after a ‘ridiculous development’.
