Sources: Major update on Andrew Robertson making Liverpool return

Liverpool expect Andy Robertson to make his long-awaited return from injury between the middle and end of January, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old has been sidelined since mid-October following a dislocated shoulder sustained on international duty with Scotland.

But the left-back is now closing in on a return next month while Liverpool are without their two senior left-backs.

The Reds have not given a date on Robertson’s return but sources have told Football Insider that he is making progress behind the scenes and could now be back playing in a few weeks’ time.

Kostas Tsimikas, who has filled in during the Scotsman’s spell away, broke his collarbone in Saturday’s (23 December) 1-1 draw against Arsenal and is facing months on the sidelines.

The club remain without multiple first-team stars through injury including Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Alexis Mac Allister.

Robertson has not represented Liverpool since their 2-2 Premier League draw against Brighton on October 8, but he underwent surgery for his injury which he deemed successful.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has rotated between Tsimikas, Joe Gomez and youngster Luke Chambers in his absence, but the mainstay is expected to be back in action soon.

He has been Liverpool’s first-choice left-back since his £10million move from Hull City in 2017, making 275 appearances in all competitions.

Robertson has bagged nine goals and 63 assists during his spell at Anfield and has been a huge influence on their success since Klopp’s arrival in 2015.

Liverpool sit second in the Premier League table following their point against the league-leading Gunners and will next travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Boxing Day.
