Sources: Major update on Rangers re-signing Billy Gilmour

Rangers are not currently in the race to re-sign Billy Gilmour this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Gilmour is unlikely to leave Brighton permanently at the end of the season but he is looking to spend the 2023-24 campaign on loan away from the AMEX.

The 21-year-old’s contract with the Seagulls runs until 2026 after he joined from Chelsea last September.

Despite his recent arrival, the Scotland international is keen to test himself at a new club next season in an attempt to change his fortunes.

But, Football Insider has learned that there is no interest from the Gers in bringing him back to Ibrox.

The midfielder joined the Rangers academy after spending three months in the Celtic set up.

At the age of 15, he made his debut for the under-20 development team after which first team boss Mark Warburton invited him to train with the senior side.

A year later, Gilmour agreed to join Chelsea just after his 16th birthday and he went on to spend a tumultuous five years with the club.

The Scot struggled to make his mark on the first team and was sent out on loan to Norwich where he found himself in difficulty once again.

He then returned to Stamford Bridge before completing a permanent transfer to Brighton where he has continued to struggle.

Gilmour has made just ten appearances for Roberto de Zerbi’s side across all competitions this season and has been in the starting XI for just four of those outings.
