Sources: Man City advance Phil Foden talks as new stance revealed
Manchester City are set to speed up contract talks with Phil Foden in the coming weeks as he nears the final year of his current deal with the club.
Foden wants to stay at Man City beyond 2027, which is when his current contract is due to come to an end, despite some struggles this season.
The 25-year-old has started just one of the Citizens’ last five games in all competitions, but still remains focused on helping his boyhood club to more glory in the years to come.
City are due to hold contract talks with Foden and his agent over the next few weeks and months, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast.
Pep Guardiola’s own future is up in the air and Man City’s transfer plans are taking a backseat for now, so they do not want to lose Foden at any cost this summer.

Foden has registered 13 goals and six assists in 43 appearances for City this season, but last netted back in mid-December against Crystal Palace.
He looks set to miss out on a starting spot at the World Cup with England this summer, but has no plans to leave his boyhood club and could well sign fresh terms very soon.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I think the preference from the club and from the player would probably to sign a new contract and extend his stay at City.
“He’s obviously a City boy, having come through the ranks and had great success at the club. It’s been a strange season for Foden, he’s not been a regular starter throughout the campaign.
“I think his preference would be to stay at City if a deal can be agreed.
“He’s got just over a year to run on his current contract, so I would imagine those talks are ongoing and will speed up over the coming weeks and months to try and come to a resolution and get an agreement between all parties as well.”
Bernardo Silva is more likely to leave Man City ahead of Foden
Silva has been a mainstay in Guardiola’s side once more this season, but could well depart the Etihad Stadium this summer at the end of his contract.
The 31-year-old is approaching the latter stages of his current deal, and City are yet to indicate whether they would like him to stay or not.
Sources have told Football Insider that PSG are interested in Silva as it stands, with Juventus and Benfica also eyeing a move for his services.
