Sources: Man City desperate to agree Phil Foden deal amid fears he could be prised away

Man City have a whole host of players running out of contract in the coming seasons with Phil Foden an absolute priority to resolve.

John Stones is one of the Man City players out of contract next summer along with Stefan Ortega as they enter the final year of their deals.

A fellow face set to depart could also be Bernardo Silva who is being pursued by Juventus with the chance to bring him in as a free agent.

Yet, the most problematic contract for Pep Guardiola to resolve is that of Foden who could be leaving the Etihad in the summer of 2027.

Man City to tie Phil Foden to long-term contract

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Cityzens are eager to retain the Englishman’s services far into the future.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider on 3 October that Foden will sign a new Man City contract.

This certainly seems the case given the number 47’s recent uptick in form after battling niggling injuries and being seemingly out-of-favour with Guardiola.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I’m sure they will be looking to secure Foden’s long-term future, as you said, he’s under contract until 2027.

“They won’t really want Foden to go into next summer into the final year of his contract, just in case he could be prised away.”

Man City long-term contract the foundation for Foden’s England return

Former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider on 10 September that Foden could miss out on England’s World Cup squad.

The 25-year-old has not played for the Three Lions since the March 2025 World Cup Qualifiers which suggests he is currently not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

By signing a new deal at the Etihad, there will be less uncertainty for the Englishman over his long-term future which will likely lead to an increase in morale and motivation.

That could be the key to continuing his fine form at the club and forcing his way into the German’s thinking to bag one of the lucrative spots on the plane to head to the highly-coveted international tournament.
