Sources: Man City edge closer to agreeing Phil Foden deal, it will be done ‘soon’
Man City are edging closer to agreeing a huge Phil Foden deal, sources have told Football Insider.
The jewel of the City academy, 25, played a key role as Pep Guardiola’s side beat Liverpool 3-0 last time out, firing them up to second in the league table and just four points behind Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Guardiola has overseen an overhaul of his first-team squad over the last 12 months, but Foden remains one of his most trusted players at the Etihad.
John Stones is one of the Man City players out of contract next summer along with Bernardo Silva, while the likes of Phil Foden and Rodri will see their deals expire in 2027.
As a result, City are planning to step up contract talks with a number of their key players, and they are now making progress towards a major agreement.

Man City advancing in Phil Foden contract talks
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 7 November that Man City would hold contract talks with Foden to extend his stay at the club beyond 2027.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, officials at the Etihad are expecting talks to be a formality with growing confidence that an agreement over a new long-term deal for the midfielder is now close.
This comes as a result of the England international’s resurgence this season, where he has once again established himself as a key player under Guardiola.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, I think it’s a no-brainer really for everybody involved. Definitely a no-brainer for Man City.
“He’s a City boy, his best years are still ahead of him and he can be a key man for City going forward, so it makes sense that the club are looking to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
“He’s got just over 18 months to run on his current deal and I’m sure City will be looking to sort of secure his long-term future and end any speculation that he could be lured away.
“The key for Phil Foden this year is he seems to be getting back to his best in this new-look City team and he’s back in the England squad.

“Form is temporary, class is permanent. I think that’s pretty much the case for Phil Foden.
“So for me, yeah, you would expect this to take care of itself sooner rather than later, as all parties are happy to extend this relationship.”
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed last month that Foden is keen to stay at Man City and hopes to extend his deal to deter any speculation.
Clubs keeping close tabs on Foden’s contract situation
Football Insider revealed on 3 October that Man City are keen to renew Foden’s terms amid initial fears he could be prised away from the Etihad.
With his current contract set to expire in 2027, there has been informal interest in the England international with clubs keeping a close eye on his situation.
Following his return to top form and to Thomas Tuchel‘s England plans, the midfielder’s situation is gathering further attention, with all eyes on his contract talks.

However, any doubts about his long-term future at the Etihad are now fading, with confidence he will extend his stay in Guardiola’s side for the foreseeable future.
This comes after former Everton CEO Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider on 3 October that Foden will sign a new Man City contract.
