Sources: Man City in advanced talks to agree Jamie McAtee deal in blow to Liverpool and Man United
Man City sensation James McAtee is in advanced talks over a new long-term contract, Football Insider understands.
The midfielder, 19, has less than 18 months left on his deal and the club are keen to reward him with a bumper new contract.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider City are confident of tying McAtee to a new deal as they have high hopes for the England Under-20 international becoming a regular in Pep Guardiola’s first team.
He has been internally tipped as the next Etihad Stadium breakthrough talent with the potential to follow in the footsteps of Phil Foden.
This site revealed in May of last year (2021) that City had opened talks with the young midfielder amid links with Man United, Liverpool and Barcelona.
McAtee signed a three-year deal when he turned 17 in 2020.
The Athletic reported on Monday (31 January) he had rejected a last-gasp loan move away.
It is claimed Championship clubs Bournemouth, QPR, Swansea and Huddersfield as well as Scottish champions Rangers were interested in temporary deals.
McAtee made his senior debut in the 6-1 win over Wycombe in the Carabao Cup earlier this season.
He has now made three substitute appearances for Guardiola’s side totalling 45 minutes of action.

At Under-23s level, McAtee has 23 goals and 16 assists in 44 games, including 38 starts.
He has been at City since signing for the club’s academy as an Under-11.
