Sources: Man City move for Antonee Robinson fails as deal agreed

Man City are among the clubs to miss out on a deal for Fulham star Antonee Robinson after he penned a new deal at Craven Cottage, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (7 July) that Robinson, 25, had agreed a new five-year deal – news that was confirmed by the Cottagers later that night.

This new agreement comes amid a backdrop of strong interest in the left-back over the last 12 months.

It is believed that Premier League trio Man City, Newcastle and Wolves were all keen on a potential deal for Robinson before he pledged his future to Fulham.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that both AC and Inter Milan held a long-term interest in the United States international.

His performances after returning to the Premier League with Fulham turned heads – but Marco Silva’s side have moved to fend off interest by tying him down to a new deal.

Robinson’s previous contract, which was netting him a reported wage of just £25,000-a-week, was set to expire in June 2024.

He racked up 38 appearances across all competitions and notched one assist as the Cottagers consolidated their Premier League status with a 10th-place finish last term.

The left-back also starred for the US at the World Cup in Qatar – playing every minute before their elimination against the Netherlands in the Round of 16.

Man City

Man City’s only recognised left-back is Sergio Gomez – who has made just 10 starts since joining from Anderlecht last summer (2022).

Natural centre-back Nathan Ake often played on the left side of Pep Guardiola’s defence last term.

In other news, Man City well placed to land record-breaking £80m payout.
