Sources: Man City ‘pulling out all the stops’ to keep Bernardo Silva for one more season

Man City will pull out all the stops to keep Bernardo Silva at the club past this summer despite speculation about his future, sources have told Football Insider.

City are determined to keep the 28-year-old with midfielder Ilkay Gundogan potentially completing a free transfer exit in the summer window.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 March) that Barcelona are optimistic about signing Gundogan after preliminary talks with his representatives.

Silva has previously been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium and has previously gone on record about wanting to exit.

The Portugal international’s contract runs until June 2025 after his most recent extension in 2019.

Barcelona have been admirers of the attacking midfielder in the past, but it is believed that they will find a deal hard to do unless they clear the decks and solve their well-publicised financial issues.

Paris Saint-Germain have also been long-term admirers of Silva – and it is understood that they are likely to be one of the only sides able to afford a transfer.

But sources with knowledge of the 28-year-old’s situation have revealed that City are determined to keep him at the club – even if it is just for one more season.

The former Monaco and Benfica star has managed four goals and five assists in 39 appearances for Guardiola’s side this season.

Silva, who cost City a reported initial fee of £43.5million in 2017, – earns £150,000-a-week (according to FBRef).
