Sources: Man City turning full attention to signing Mateo Kovacic
Man City are ready to turn their full attention to signing Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Premier League leaders are very keen to bring the 29-year-old to the Etihad Stadium after a big development in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.
According to reports in the last week, Bellingham, 19, is close to completing a move to Real Madrid despite prolonged interest from Premier League giants.
City are now set to turn their attention to signing Kovacic, with well-placed sources telling Football Insider that Pep Guardiola is a “big fan” of the Chelsea star.
The Croatia international will have just one year remaining on his Stamford Bridge contract next month – and could depart after five years with the Blues.
Kovacic, who has won the Europa League and Champions League during his time in England, earns a reported wage of £100,000-a-week at Chelsea.
The midfielder has notched two goals and two assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this season.
However, he has started just 16 Premier League games in the 2022-23 campaign – with injuries and new signings limiting his involvement.

Football Insider revealed last month (3 April) that Chelsea are set to hold talks with Kovacic over a new contract – with the midfielder currently able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January 2024.
This site also revealed (2 April) that ex-Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is pushing Bayern Munich to sign the 29-year-old in the off-season.
