Sources: Man United chief pushing for Julian Nagelsmann to be next manager
Man United director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is pushing for Julian Nagelsmann to become the club’s next permanent manager.
The club’s search for a permanent successor to Ruben Amorim is well underway, with a interim boss set to step in until big-name targets become available in the summer.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, sources say Vivell is a big fan of Nagelsmann and believes he could become available after leading Germany at the World Cup in the summer if offered the opportunity to move to Old Trafford.
Vivell and Nagelsmann previously worked together at RB Leipzig and enjoy a strong relationship which would aid his case for landing the Man United job.
However, the recruitment director is not the only influential voice behind the scenes, with other big-name managers also being put forward for the role.
Christopher Vivell tips Julian Nagelsmann for Man United job
Football Insider revealed on 5 January that Nagelsmann is a front-runner for the Man United job while they continue to weigh up alternative candidates.
The Germany boss lifted the Bundesliga title alongside two German Super Cups during his spell with Bayern Munich, and would bring winning experience.
Meanwhile, he has long been one of the most highly-rated young managers in Europe and landing his signature would be seen as a coup for Man United.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I think United really do want to bring in a top class manager.
“They don’t want to rush into anything so the interim manager will allow them time to look at candidates. There are a number of people United are looking at for this job.
“I know Christopher Vivell is a big fan of Julian Nagelsmann as well.
“He, potentially, could become available after the World Cup when he leads Germany over in the United States, and is another name high on their list.

“But for now, they’re going to take their time and try to find the best man to get United back on track, competing for honours and finding consistency.
“There’s been too many managerial changes at Old Trafford over the years, and it’s vital that INEOS get this one right.“
Oliver Glasner and Enzo Maresca are also in the running
Football Insider revealed on 11 January that Man United are lining up a “top-class” manager to become their next permanent boss following an interim spell.
Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola, of Crystal Palace and Bournemouth respectively, are both leading contenders for the position at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is one of the names on their shortlist following his dramatic exit from Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day.

In the meantime, Football Insider revealed that Man United are likely to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the interim manager until the end of the season.
The decision to bring in an interim manager will give them time to assess a number of options, with more high-value targets expected to emerge in the summer.
