Sources: Man United could now pull plug on Harry Kane deal and sign red-hot sensation instead

Man United could turn attention to signing Atalanta sensation Rasmus Hojlund amid concerns over a potential Harry Kane move this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

This site revealed on Wednesday (31 May) that the Red Devils are not optimistic about finding an agreement with Tottenham for Kane.

Man United chiefs fear a move for the 29-year-old could mean protracted negotiations which drag on throughout the off-season – and instead prefer to get their business concluded swiftly.

Therefore, it is believed moving on to alternative targets could be more straightforward – and Hojlund is a player they know is easily attainable this summer.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (1 June) that Atalanta want a fee of €60million (around £52million) in order to part with the Denmark international.

Hojlund is viewed by Man United chiefs as an alternative to mega-money deals for Kane or Napoli star Victor Osimhen.

He notched 15 goals across 41 appearances in all competitions in 2022-23, despite starting in just 26 of those outings.

The Dane is regarded as one of the best young strikers in world football – and has wowed Man United scouts over the past year.

However, Kane would provide extensive Premier League experience – with the England captain notching 30 top-flight goals in the 2022-23 campaign alone.

The 29-year-old, who has one year remaining on his Tottenham contract, has racked up 213 Premier League goals – and is now 47 strikes shy of equalling Alan Shearer’s all-time record.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag has already confirmed he is planning to add another goalscorer in the summer window in order to reduce reliance on Marcus Rashford.

Rashford scored 30 goals across all competitions to help the Red Devils record a third-place finish and return to the Champions League for the 2023-24 campaign.
