Sources: Man United now want to sign Marcel Sabitzer permanently, dressing room claim revealed

Man United are keen to sign Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent basis this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils signed the 29-year-old on a six-month loan deal following Christian Eriksen’s ankle injury that has left him on the sidelines for over three months.

Erik ten Hag is a huge admirer of the Austria international and is pushing the United board to sign him permanently this summer.

The Dutchman believes Sabitzer would be a great addition to the dressing room, with Ten Hag impressed by his fitness levels, mentality and professionalism.

Sabitzer had fallen down the pecking order in Germany and Bayern are happy to let him leave provided that United match their asking price of around £25-30million this summer.

Bayern are looking to make a profit on their £14million signing of Sabitzer from Red Bull Leipzig in 2021.

Since arriving in Manchester, Sabitzer wasn’t immediately introduced to the starting lineup by Ten Hag, with Casemiro, Scott McTominay and Fred all competing for positions in midfield.

But Casemiro’s latest suspension has provided the Austrian with a run of games as a starter, with Sabitzer starting in United’s last three games.

Overall, he has made 11 senior appearances for United this season, scoring his only goal so far in the FA Cup quarter-final win against Fulham last month.

Sabitzer also added his first assist of the season on Wednesday night when he set up Marcus Rashford to score the only goal of the game against Brentford.
