Sources: Man United race to sign midfielder, £50m will seal deal
Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand could be available for a cut-price with Premier League teams circling, sources have told Football Insider.
Manchester United were linked with Hjulmand over the summer, and are still keeping tabs on the Danish international.
Tottenham and Manchester City are also reportedly interested in signing the 26-year-old.
Hjulmand has a £70million release clause in his Sporting contract, but sources say that the likes of Spurs, City, and United could negotiate that figure down to £50m.

Ruben Amorim has links to Morten Hjulmand
If Man United are to bring in Hjulmand, then they will be forced to fight off competition from their Premier League rivals.
However, United do have an advantage in the race for the Dane, due to his links with manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim worked with the Sporting captain while he was at the Portuguese club, and was actually the one who signed him from Lecce in the summer of 2023.
It is no secret that Man United are looking to sign a midfielder, with Hjulmand joining the likes of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson on the Red Devils’ shortlist.
Man United to replace departing midfielder
Meanwhile, Man United are not planning to trigger the extension option in Casemiro’s contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The Brazilian currently has a key role in Amorim’s midfield and has turned around his career at the club after appearing set for the exit door in each of the previous two windows.
Casemiro’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and the Manchester side are looking to trim their overall wage bill, which could see him depart the club.
Hjulmand could be an option to replace the former Real Madrid man, if he is to leave in the summer.
